A great cooperation with the University Clinic Mbarara

How well it paid for Dr Dr Oliver Blume and Gunther Au-Balbach to keep up the good relationship with the University Clinic Mbarara was shown in the latest operating campaigns in Uganda/Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi. The Ugandan team led by the surgeon Dr Deus and the anaesthesiologist Dr Emmanuel Munyarugero were very effective in their assistance to the two oral and maxillofacial surgeons from Munich and Solingen. A total of 101 cleft patients were treated by the surgeons during the three campaigns. This success would never have been possible without the support provided by the University Clinic Mbarara!

But also in Mbarara/Uganda itself the ongoing help for cleft children is showing a positive development. The overall conditions for cleft operations in Mbarara can be categorised as good. We can rely on the anaesthetics given by Dr Emmanuel Munyarugero and know that the operating theatre is staffed by two competent and ambitious local specialists, Dr Deus and Dr Godfried. Complicated cases are generally reserved for the two German surgeons. The Ugandan surgeon Dr Deus attended a surgical workshop in India. He stayed on for two weeks of training and returned to Mbarara full of enthusiasm and vigour. This trip was organised and financed by the Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe.

Cleft children in East Africa urgently need our help. With your donation you can help the affected children and their families not only in Uganda, but also in Burundi, north-western Tanzania and once again in 2019 in Rwanda.
