Surgical mission to Rwanda
From February 2nd to 10th, our two volunteer project managers, the experienced oral and maxillofacial surgeons Dr. Dr. Oliver Blume and Gunther Au-Balbach, again worked in East Africa. This year's mission was in Rwanda. Our German-African team treated 30 children aged from two months to 16 years. Particularly touching: the story of sixteen-year-old Sifa. For all her sixteen years, the girl had to live with an open palate. Thanks to our doctors - and donors - she was now able to have it repaired.
Surgical mission to Java
The first DCKH mission in Indonesia in 2020 took place from January 31 to February 2. Its destination was the province of Banten in the west of the island of Java, one of the larger islands of the island state of Indonesia with its more than 17,000 islands. Our team was able to treat 20 patients over two days, all babies and small children. They were accompanied by their mothers, who were grateful for the help from Germany.
Peru: Qorito’s first mission in 2020
From January 29th to February 1st, our Peruvian partner organization Qorito performed their first treatment mission this year. The destination was Azángaro, the capital of the province of the same name in the Puno region in southern Peru, 55 km from Lake Titicaca, at an altitude of 3,850 meters. The mission started with a typical dish from the region, a so-called Fiambre, which the Qorito team enjoyed together with the hospital staff, the patients and their families.
