Our first surgical mission in Indonesia in 2020 went to Serang. Serang is the capital of the West Java province of Banten and the administrative seat of the government district of the same name. In cooperation with the local Ministry of Health, 35 children with cleft lip and palate from the region were identified in advance. Of the 27 little patients who actually showed up with their parents in early February, 20 received surgery. The seven others unfortunately had to be rejected due to being in too poor health to operate safely. Our thanks go to Ulrike Lamlé, who organizes our aid effort in Indonesia and accompanied this mission.
